Questions To Ask Your Photographer

As a photographer, I know that finding the right photographer for your event, wedding, or portrait session is crucial. There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a photographer, and one important aspect is asking the right questions. It can definitely feel overwhelming, but don't worry, that's what I'm here for! So, here are some key questions to ask your photographer!

Experience and Portfolio:

When meeting with a potential photographer, it's important to ask about their experience and see examples of their work. This gives you a good grasp on their style both in editing and their process for photography. Ask questions like:

- How long have you been a photographer?

- Can I see examples of your work?

- Do you have experience with the type of event or portrait session I am planning?

Style and Approach:

Every photographer has their own unique style and approach to photography. It's important to make sure their style aligns with your vision! It helps to set your expectations so there is no disappointment down the road. Ask questions like:

- How would you describe your photography style?

- How do you approach a portrait session or event?

- Do you have any specific techniques or methods you like to use?

Packages and Pricing:

Understanding what is included in your photography package and knowing the price upfront is essential. The last thing you want is to have unexpected costs arise or expectations not met. It is so crucial to fully understand what you're package includes, so don't be afraid of asking as many questions as you need to! Ask questions like:

- What is included in your photography packages?

- Do you offer any additional services or products, such as prints or albums?

- What is your pricing structure and any additional fees I should be aware of?

Availability and Timeline:

It's important to establish the photographer's availability for your event or portrait session and to discuss the timeline. Every photographer has a different method, so it's super important to ask about it. Ask questions like:

- Are you available on the date of my event or portrait session?

- How many hours are included in your coverage?

- What is your turnaround time for delivering the final photos?

Contracts and Policies:

Before booking a photographer, it's vital to review their contracts and policies. It benefits both you AND the photographer to be protected by a contract. Never sign anything without fully reading and understanding what you're signing!! Ask questions like:

- Do you have a contract outlining the terms and conditions of our agreement?

- What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

- How do you handle unforeseen circumstances, such as weather issues or equipment malfunctions?

By asking the right questions and carefully considering the photographer's answers, you can ensure that you find the perfect photographer for your event or session. Remember to trust your instincts and choose a photographer who you feel comfortable with and whose work you admire! Don't be afraid to ask questions, the right photographer will be happy to explain their process to you and make sure you're the perfect fit!

Kind Words

“I’ve worked with Hana twice, once for a best friend shoot (just something fun) and once for a mini boudoir shoot. Hana is absolutely amazing and the pictures are beautiful! I was so nervous for my boudoir shoot, but Hana made me feel so comfortable and absolutely beautiful! The pictures turned out amazing and I’ve never felt so good before. She is great to work with and so friendly and funny. She makes you feel like you’ve been friends forever and takes the time to connect with you and learn your style and then she captures you perfectly in the pictures.” -Paige
